Microblading Or Ombre Brows - Which Is Right For You?

22/04/2020

Calling all fair haired gals! This one's for you.

Being fair is a blessing and a curse, depending on which hair we're talking about. But in the brow department it's just not cute. There are sooo many different things we do for our brows now, and microblading and ombre brows are becoming super popular.

Having been self conscious about my fair eyebrows since a girl commented on one of my Facebook profile pictures asking "Where's your eyebrows?" when I was about 13, I've tried a lot to get them perfect. Including both microblading and ombre.

But which one is right for you?

What Is Microblading?

Microbalding is a semi-permanent tattoo. A tiny blade made of little needles is dipped into the dye and drawn across your eyebrows in strokes to mimic hair.

The shape of your brows will be mapped out and a colour will be chosen to best suit you before any tattooing happens and your brow area will be numbed with cream. Let me tell you, even with the cream it hurts! I'm not going to sugar coat it okay, microblading is painful. If you don't have a good pain thresh hold and you don't feel like you NEED it, I would say don't do it.

If you have brows but just feel you want them filled out more or shaped differently, microblading it's for you. I would say, the people who would benefit most from it is if, like me, you have no eyebrows because they are thin and fair.

When you have your eyebrows mircrobladed you have the first session and then go back in a few weeks for a top up. FYI - the top up is even more painful than the first session. After this your brows should last around three years, and you can book up mini top up appointments in between to keep them bold and fresh if you feel you need it.

I paid £250 for my microblading, but you can pay a lot more than that depending on where you go. If you are keen to get them done make sure you really shop around and go to the best place you can - don't be dazzled by a low price because honestly you will get what you pay for.

If you're after a natural and classic eyebrow where you previously had over-plucked or fine hairs microblading will be perfect for you. As long as you can withstand the pain, of course.

What Is Ombre Brows

A few years after I got my eyebrows microbladed they had faded almost completely and I was ready to try something new. I draw my eyebrows on everyday with a powder, so I wanted to recreate this look without having to put makeup on. Ombre brows is the perfect way to do this.

Ombre brows are created using just one needle pushing on the skin at different pressures to create the ombre look. Sounds painful right? Wrong. In my personal experience I had my brows numbed before and I was fully expecting the same feeling as microblading, but I honestly didn't feel a thing.

So if you're looking for that make-up ready look Ombre is the brow for you!
