Finding Our Dream First Home

Buying your first home is the most exciting thing in the world, and this year we were lucky enough to do just that. In December 2021 we made the first steps to finding our dream first home. It all still feels like a dream!

For the past year we had been manifesting our own perfect little home together. We had always envisioned a cosy two bedroom terrace located in the middle of where both our families lived. Unfortunately, this area is super expensive so it felt like a lifetime away.

After discovering the Help to Buy scheme we realised our dream may not be as far away as we thought. So, on a chilly December afternoon we headed over to a development in our perfect location. At this point we had no idea what we were doing or if we could even afford a house, but the team at the site were amazing and helped us so much.

We viewed two show homes on the development, got set up with a fantastic mortgage broker who explained exactly what we could afford. At this point, there was one property on the development in our price range. It was a gorgeous little two bed mid-terrace with a fully integrated kitchen, bathroom upgrades and a dreamy grey pallet across the house. As it was due to be completed in June all of the options had been chosen already, but they were all to our taste.

Of course, buying a home isn't something we could do in a hurry - so we took a few days to decide while the property was on hold. We travelled two hours away to view a show home in the style our house would be in to check it was the home for us. Believe it or not, despite our dreams of a cosy terrace, we actually decided to release our hold on the plot and continue our search.

With our new knowledge and plenty of research we scoured every development within a 20 mile radius with our sights set on the three bed property this time. We came close to purchasing a three bed home that was already finished, but without a window in the bathroom and a very short time to completion this wasn't the place for us either.

Fast forward to the end of January 2022. Our final development visit was to a site we knew had no three bedroom properties available at the moment, but they told us they were having two detached three beds coming very soon. Never in our wildest dreams did with think we could afford a house like that - but they were expected to be just in budget!

The sales team told us the plots would be released that month and all of the interested people would get a blanket email and the first person to call would get the plot. We were so determined to get this house, scouring our emails every waking moment for weeks on end. After pestering and pestering the sales team on what felt like a daily basis we were told the plots were being released in the next two days.

Almost exactly 24 hours later the phone went ping across the room. 30 seconds later we were on the phone reserving our dream plot. IT WAS OURS!

Two days later we met with the sales team to officially reserve our plot and find out all about our future home. And this is just the start of our journey!
